Research Overview:Research and extension mission statement: Nutrient management - Sustaining agricultural production and environmental quality. My specific research includes projects, which elucidate the biogeochemistry, transport, and subsequent best management practices for phosphorus, nitrogen, and potassium fertilizers and animal manures. Extension activities include the development and delivery of decision making tools to assist producers, ag professionals, and regulatory agencies in making decisions that help sustain economically and environmentally sound production of field and forage crops in Wisconsin and the Upper Midwest.
Current research includes:
Effect of manure treatment on nitrogen and phosphorus availability
Phosphorus availability as affected by manure and soil interactions.
Manure application timing effects on nitrogen availability to corn
Soil K dynamics and fertilizer requirement for corn and soybean.
N response in corn as related to application timing and hybrid.
Evaluation of N source and timing for grass pastures.
Survey of subsoil fertility in Wisconsin
Understanding plant availability of Mn in glyphosate resistant soybean systems.
